L’Arche Avalon is a local organization affiliated with L’Arche Canada and L’Arche International. The organization exists to enhance and celebrate the lives of adults with intellectual disabilities. The ultimate goal is to establish L’ARCHE homes here in the Avalon region such as those that exist in eight other provinces in Canada. In these homes the “core members” live with their assistants in ways that ensure that everyone is helping and learning from each other.
The other goal of L’Arche Avalon is to establish a community of active members by offering a monthly schedule of events and activities in which they are invited to participate. During this past year many of these scheduled events have been interrupted and restricted by COVID regulations. But for years now there have been regular inclusive activities such as group walks, Spiritual Expressions, monthly gathering, craft mornings and Jam Circles.
Above is a recent photo of some of our members on our monthly walk. It was a first: being able to walk outside in January.
