Lanugo (very fine hair) covers the body. Generally, this will be shed prior to birth.<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">20 Weeks<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<p>The fetus may startle in reaction to loud sounds and can actually hear noises outside of the womb. At this stage, fetus\u2019s are considered viable, that is, they can survive outside the womb with appropriate medical intervention<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">26 Weeks<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<p>Although the fetus\u2019s eyes been sealed shut for the last few months, they are now fetus\u2019s eyes are opening and beginning to blink. Fetal brain scans show a response to touch. If a light is shone on the mother\u2019s abdomen, the fetus will turn its head, which means the optic nerve is working.<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">32 Weeks<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<p>It may be noted that the fetus is not moving around as much because there is just not enough room. Besides growing, the fetus is busy dreaming. Brain scans have shown that fetuses have periods of dream sleep (REM) starting around the eighth month.<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">35 Weeks<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<p>From this point onwards, the fetus is no longer considered premature and is patiently awaiting its entrance into the world.<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<p>If you would like to learn more about fetal development, there are many great websites that will provide you with detailed information and imaging.
